You can make perfect rice every time without the expense of an electric rice cooker. Start with simple math:
For regular rice, it is one part rice to two parts cold water.
Example: 1 cup of rice to 2 cups of cold water.
For instant rice, it is one to one.
Example: 1 cup of rice to 1 cup of cold water.
Cooked rice is twice the size of uncooked . 1 cup of uncooked = 2 cups of cooked. Place your rice and cold water into a pot that has a lid. Bring the water to a boil. Watch carefully it will boil over if you don’t catch it just as it boils. Turn off the heat of the stove and put the lid on.
NOW NO PEEKING for 20 minutes. After 20 minutes lift the lid. You will see evenly distributed holes throughout the rice and no water left. If for some strange reason there is water left, bring it back to a boil, turn off the stove, put the lid back on and in approximately 10 minutes it should be done.
Cooked rice is so versatile. You can 1. put some in a bowl with milk, sugar, and cinnamon, heat it for a minute and a half in the microwave and have a hot cereal breakfast. 2. You can mix it with chopped cooked chicken breast, mixed vegetables, one can of cream of chicken soup, ½ a can of water put it in a baking dish, top with shredded cheese and microwave approximately 3-5 minutes till the cheese is well melted for a full meal. Add a mixed fruit salad from the deli and you have a quick company meal.
Now that should get your creativity perking. Enjoy your perfect rice!
